FabNewport is thrilled to offer the Scratch Mastery Challenge. All Rhode Island students from K-12 are invited to participate. Create your winning code. Make whatever you want. The more sophisticated the design, the bigger the prize. Winners will be announced at the East Bay Mini Maker Faire on October 7, at the Thompson Middle School.
Prizes include: A Day with the coolest coders in Rhode Island; Makey Makey Boards; Arduionos and Raspberry Pis.
Scratch is a programming language which helps young people to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively. “If our youth can gain confidence coding with Scratch it will increase their educational and economic opportunities,” said Josie Michaud, FabNewport’s Director of Instruction. “And Scratch is fun.”
To promote involvement FabNewport is hosting FREE Scratch workshops every Monday, 6pm-8pm, from July 10 through September 25 at 1 York St, Newport. They will also host workshops with local partners such as libraries and are seeking anyone, or organization, is interested collaborating.
The coding challenge runs from July 10 through October 7 and is open to any K-12 student. Enter projects by emailing the project’s URL to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will use Dr. Scratch to judge the entries.
